Nice timing, simple but effective use of Flash. Where can I see the entire 6 minutes?
Find out more about this production here.

This one is well known to Irish people the world over and may more besides. Awarding ‘Give Up Yer Aul Sins’ made Brown Bag Films an Irish household name and you’ll be hard pressed to find a home that doesn’t have a copy of the DVD tucked away somewhere.
If I recall correctly from articles I read about it at the time of it’s launch, it was a side project for for the studio. The animation and look of the production fits perfectly with the amazing voice recordings of Dublin school children telling stories from the bible, recorded decades ago.
Brown Bag are probably Ireland’s best known animation studio (set up by a couple of ex-Ballyfermot students) and they have won many awards and been nominated for many besides this.
“Based on the original recordings taken by Peig Cunningham in Dublin schoolrooms from the 1960′s, (subsequently re-discovered and released by EMI record) this film dramatises the event as a TV crew arrive to record the children and we are treated to the story of John the Baptist told as only children can. It received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Short at the 2001 Oscars.Give Up Yer Aul Sins has screened in almost 50 film festivals, including The Galway Film Fleadh (where it won Best Animation), Cork Film Festival (Best Irish and Best International Animation), Cartoons on Bay (Special Award for Original Idea), New York Comedy Festival, Boston Irish Film Festival, Aspen Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival.”

Wow! Great idea, a story tree! This one brings back memories of layout class and the backgrounds in this production certainly have that classical animation feel. I loved everything about this short and can see why it won an award. Great story, nicely done.
“Created by Vancouver Film School student Stephanie Sim through the VFS Classical Animation program. It received the award for “Best Classical or Stop Motion Animation” at the 2006 CAEAA awards.”

I can see why this one is so popular. The concept is taken from a simple quote (I think) and it just goes to show how easy it is to come up with an idea for your production. Keep it simple, let the animation tell the story and entertain. This is really enjoyable!
